Roderick Gawthrop is a Clinical Psychologist. He completed a Bachelor of Psychology with First Class Honours at Macquarie University, before completing his Master of Clinical Psychology at Western Sydney University.

Roderick works with adults, adolescents, children (aged 5 and older), and couples. He has experience working with individuals, couples and groups in public and private health, and university settings.

Roderick currently works at St John of God Hospital in Burwood running groups in the mood wing and drug and alcohol wing of the hospital in addition to running outpatient DBT groups.

Outside of work, Roderick has a keen interest in philosophy, science and sport. In particular, Roderick enjoys tennis, and has served on the board of Australia's largest LGBTQI tennis group.

Therapeutic Approach

Roderick works primarily within a Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) framework. However, he also draws upon other therapeutic modalities including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Schema therapy, and Motivational Interviewing (MI) — with a focus on creating a collaborative, empathic, and above all, safe space for change to occur.
